Bizzy Bees Pre-school CIO is ‘parent-run’ which means that the committee has overall responsibility for all aspects of running the setting. The day to day running of the pre-school is delegated to the manager and their management team.
The committee can be made up of parents, grandparents and community members who are elected to take on key roles on a voluntary basis to ensure a smooth, consistent and secure service. There must be at least 3 members and up to 12, based on our constitution, which is the legal document we follow, but there must be at least three officers; Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Without these then the pre-school is not able to run!
The committee has overall responsibility for:
•Safeguarding our children
•Financial management (including staff, pay and pensions, hall rental, government funding and invoicing)
•Staff recruitment and management
•Liaising with Ofsted and other relevant bodies
•Ensuring all policies and procedures are in line with the national standards
The committee & management team meet on a monthly basis to discuss the above and any other matters that have arisen.
Contacting the committee
At present, all the current members of the committee are parents so can be found at pick up and drops at some stage during the week – just ask a staff member to point us out! Or if you prefer to email then feel free to contact us; firstname.lastname@example.org.
Joining the committee
Without a committee, the pre-school would have to close, regardless of finances or pupil numbers, so it is vital we attract new members each year. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is usually held in October each year and is open to all parents, grandparents of the children who attend the pre-school. At the AGM we look back over the previous year’s activities and shape the coming year’s plan in collaboration with parents and staff. We also use the AGM to elect new members onto the committee, although new members can join at any time.
Being a committee member is a unique opportunity to get involved with your child’s learning and, although unpaid, is a valuable addition to your CV. Previous committee members are available to help ‘learn the ropes’ and there is comprehensive online help from the PSLA (Pre-school Learning Alliance) and supportive team at Beford Borough who can guide you every step of the way and are responsible for keeping us all up-to-date with any required changes in government policy. It is also a nice way to get to know other parents and be involved in the community.
If you are interested in joining the committee and would like to know more about what is involved, just speak to any staff or committee member.
